Rationale for open office hours
We held a small giveaway at the end of 2016 in which I gave away some consulting hours in a raffle. I was really surprised by how well received and appreciative everyone was so I’d like to make some form of open office hours a regular thing.
I expected in each session to get right into the bones of some really obscure TouchDesigner problem or some overly complex sensor rig and not have enough time to really help. The sessions ended up being the opposite. I chatted with a few folks about bigger picture stuff, career paths, my background, workflow, and a host of other topics.
It felt productive and a good use of time. I wouldn’t have chosen to write about many of those topics previously and realized people had an interest in them.
I’m greatly inspired by the regular open office hours of Zach Lieberman. I had booked some time in his open office session and it was great – I really enjoyed it. So I’d like to try to make this more of a regular thing that we do as well.
How it works
To make the scheduling of open office hours easy for everyone we’re using an automated scheduling tool, Calendly.
- Go to the link at the end of the page
- Pick one 30 minute block for yourself
- Enter your information
- You’ll receive an email from myself or my team with the link you’ll need to join the video call.
I’ve limited blocks to 30 minutes so we can get as many folks as possible. I’ve created 2 different open office blocks, one that caters to Asian time zones and one that caters to North American time zones. European time zones should ideally be able to use either blocks.
